Point taken from canon: From where in the canon are you taking your character?

History: A link to a wikipedia or other informative source is acceptable, but please be sure that all necessary parts of the canon are included.

Persona Type: You may choose from fire (agi) skills, ice (bufu) skills, wind (garu) skills, lightning (zio) skills, healing skills, physical skills, and information-gathering skills. It is recommended that you pick your type according to what best fits your character so that we can match you with an appropriate persona.

Character INFORMATION
Name: Oerba Dia Vanille
Age: 19 physically, 519 chronologically.
Canon: Final Fantasy XIII
Point taken from canon: Post-game.

Needless to say, there will be unmarked Final Fantasy XIII spoilers to follow.

Personality:
Despite often being compared to perky characters in the Final Fantasy series such as Rikku or Yuffie Kisarigi, throughout the game Vanille becomes more and more reminiscent of characters such as Yuna and Tifa Lockhart; serving as the game's narrator, Vanille remained one of the more mysterious figures in the main narrative, somber and perhaps more serious than anybody could have imagined.

Outwardly, Vanille is the ray of sunshine in the soap opera drama that is Final Fantasy XIII (not that she's immune to the drama; she caused most of it, after all!). She's constantly smiling and attempting to cheer everybody up despite the fact that all of them are basically persecuted fugitives from the law; Barthandelus' main goal was to make the protagonists devoid of any hope whatsoever in order to drive someone to become Ragnarok, and Vanille held onto hope until the very end.

While her cheerfulness isn't exactly a false mask, Vanille does use it to cover up more or less everything; when Sazh was beginning to doubt things, Vanille attempted to distract him by telling him to run, as fast and as far away as he could. When with Hope, Vanille continues this trend by being compassionate and encouraging to him, and rather than focusing on her own problems she insists that Hope find a way to tell Snow exactly how he feels (little did she know this would eventually drive him to try to kill Snow; meh, what can you do?).

However, with Fang in the picture, Vanille shows a little bit more of her true self; Vanille, in Fang's presence, is shown to be a bit more demure than her usual chipper self. This is in part because Vanille knows that Fang suffered in the past by becoming Ragnarok herself, and that her amnesia was a chance to start all over. Unfortunately, Fang's enthusiasm to try to do everything and anything to fulfill Vanille's Focus lead Vanille to make the biggest mistakes in her life, and Vanille had nobody to blame but herself. That overwhelming guilt was what made her so eager to hide the truth and cover everything with lies, even if it had good intentions.

Luckily, by the end of the game, Vanille learns to share her burdens and trust her companions instead of taking on everything onto her own shoulders, and makes a confident sacrifice to save all of Coccoon, which was persecuting her and her friends throughout the entire game. She becomes a capable young woman with a strong resolve.

As for odds and ends, Vanille is shown to enjoy things which are, in her own word, "naturey", and she's also showcased a rather stubborn streak; the bear skin she wears around her waist was from a creature she brought down herself, after all. Despite her usual tactics of denial to make herself and others feel better, this aspect of her personality is toned down at the end of the game, though old habits do tend to die hard...

There is speculation that Fang and Vanille are romantically inclined, and the fact that Fang was initially written as a male character tends to lend weight to the shipping tendency amongst debate. While it is certainly possible, I will not be playing Vanille as having any romantic inclination toward Fang should anything arise.

She speaks with an Australian accent, though she doesn't use any of the Australian rhetoric. As such, I will not be typing out her accent.

History: The first time I ever linked to a wiki article for this section.

Persona Type: Healing.
Vanille's Eidolon is Hecatoncheir, which is an Earth-elemental and physical fighter, and Vanille also has concentration in the roles of Medic and Saboteur; a Saboteur is basically a debuffer. If possible, a Persona with not only healing abilities but also a few debuffs and a physical skill here and there would be great, since Personas 3 and 4 don't have Earth-elemental skills.

First-person Sample:
Oh, wow, this place has some impressive technology, too! Well, it's nothing like on Coccoon, and Gran Pulse had its own thing as well, but... it's something nice to keep in contact with each other, isn't it?

It is a bit eerie, though; where are all of the people? It's almost like being on gran Pulse all over again... they couldn't have all just simply disappear!

Cheer up, everyone! I know we're trapped here, but there has to be a way out! There always is! Who's with me?

Third-person Sample:
Being back on solid earth? That definitely felt nice. Taking off her boots and feeling the grass between her toes, Vanille gave a nice, relaxing and satisfying sigh, taking in the fresh air you simply couldn't replicate in the artificial Coccoon. Sure, Coccoon had fun places like Nautilus, but their chocobos were pansies compared to the majestic beasts of the Archelyte Steppe! Then again, the people of Coccoon were pampered... the small instances of filial piety displayed through Lightning's concern for Serah, and Sazh's concern for Dajh, though, made Vanille realize that it wasn't necessarily their fault.

Turning around, she realized that her new companions were still taking a while to catch up with her. She's been through so much... and hopefully? It would all be over soon enough. She simply had to keep up a chipper attitude; being back on the natural Gran Pulse was definitely helping. Fang didn't seem to recall anything, and the worst of Sazh finding out about Dajh was over with. They all made a promise, together... and all that was left was to make sure that Fang would survive and live a good, long life. Even if it was without her.

"Hurry up, you guys!" Vanille jumped up and down, waving at her friends. "Last one there's a rotten egg!"
